In 1992, Joe began
sculpting whitetail deer forms for Tom Powell Supply Company of Roebuck,
South Carolina (Tom Powell Supply is now a McKenzie company).
"By sculpting forms, I feel like I've gone full
circle in the industry, covering all aspects. Sculpting has
allowed me to look at animals from yet another perspective. The
first entire year was spent draping skins over clay literally in the
deer pen, while my mature, pen-raised bucks stood an arms length
away. I found that gravity played a large part in the skin
hang. you can't get that look modeling from a carcass cast."
